1-Nov-05 Find-a-Drug to close

The Find-a-Drug project has now processed more queries than the original 250 we envisaged. We have also targetted most of the recognised protein targets for the major project areas. Where we have been able to obtain experimental data to confirm biological activity, the predictions have exceeded our expectations. Our experience suggests that it will be difficult to find collaborators who will be interested in the results of targetting proteins whose biological function is unknown or of little therapeutic interest.

We have concluded that there are insufficient worthwhile protein queries to continue the project into 2006 and have decided to close the project on 16 December 2005. We will continue to make some new queries available over the coming weeks but will not accept results after the close of the project.

We are obviously very grateful for the contributions of members and will continue to work with our collaborators.

A preliminary list of members who have found molecules with known anti-cancer activity is available here. A press release will be issued when some further analysis of these results is available.

29-May-03 The 3-D structure of the SARS virus proteinase has been determined by Professor Hilgenfeld at the University of Luebeck who has kindly made this structure available to Find-a-Drug. This is used as the basis for our second SARS query. As part of the collaboration with Professor Hilgenfeld, the hits from this work will be made available to his group and they will attempt to confirm the binding to the protein site.

07-May-03 SARS project announcement.

30-Apr-03 The web-site and software changes (1.21k) to support several news projects are being introduced over the next few days with press releases being issued when appropriate. 16-Apr-03 The web-site has been revised and the stats pages are now extracted from a database. At present, the stats pages are being served by a single server but other pages continue to be replicated on the mirror servers.

16-Apr-03 1.21j has been released for Windows. This version include some significant GUI improvements and better support for local area network installations. There are also some bug fixes and minor enhancements to the scientific code.

For installations on a single PC the upgrade should be fully automatic providing you are patient and wait as suggested. For members with a local area network, the networked clients will not stop until a molecule is completed (which can be more than 20 minutes) and they will not be restarted automatically unless you have pre-installed 1.21 tray. If you are running 1.21 tray on the remote clients, then THINK will be restarted. However, the upgrade to 1.21j tray for both single and network installations may not occur until the server is rebooted and tray on the clients restarted.

Members may wish to review the new Optional settings in the Find-a-Drug control panel (setup).
